Process
1. Students will be divided into groups of four.
2. Each student group will be assigned to a side of the essential question.
3. Students will research their topic using this Library of Congress Pathfinder. They may
also use the following supplemental resources.
4. Students will then take this information and use it to create their visual aid as well as their presentation (be sure to have at least four solid arguments).
5. Students need to be sure to use a variety of visual and textual evidence in the defense of their stance.
6. Students should reference the rubrics for the speech and the visual aid throughout the project to ensure they include all necessary criteria.
7. Students will be assigned a date and time to present to the class.
This will be a two week project. Students will be working in their history class for 10 days. Students will have approximately 3 days for research, 2 days for preparing their speech, and 3 days for creating their visual aid. (This is just a recommended framework students can work on whatever portion is necessary throughout the week. For example, a fourth day can be spent researching or a third day can be spent on the speech.) The 9th day will be reserved for in class presentations. The 10th day will be reserved for an in class discussion about the project and essential question.
- To divide students into groups they will count off by four in class. This will result in a random mixture of students in each group, so students do not just work with their friends.
2. Each student group will be assigned to a side of the essential question.
- This will be done randomly. Try to have an even number of groups on each side
